About Minka

Minka is a Colorado-based organization with two connected parts: a Community Foundation and a Consulting Practice. Together, they reflect a single belief — that sustainable change happens when communities are supported from the inside out.

Our work centers women, because we know that when women thrive, families and communities thrive with them. We focus especially on rural Colorado, where access to resources, support, and connection is often limited.

Minka isn’t just a service provider. We’re a community. Our programs are rooted in care, built on trust, and designed with the people we serve.

My Story

My name is Sofía Fecchino, and I am the Founder and Executive Director of Minka. I was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and have proudly called the Vail Valley home since 2004. My professional journey has been shaped by a deep commitment to community, leadership, and creating opportunities for others to thrive.

I spent more than a decade working at Vail Resorts, starting as a driver and eventually becoming a supervisor. This experience gave me a strong understanding of the local workforce, the hospitality industry, and the realities faced by working families in our valley. After leaving hospitality, I worked as a paraprofessional with Eagle County Schools, strengthening my connection to youth, families, and the education system.

My nonprofit career began with the Eagle Valley Community Foundation, where I first served on the Elevar Steering Committee before joining the organization as Elevar Coordinator and later becoming Elevar Program Manager. I also led the Perinatal Mental Health Program and coordinated the Belonging Colorado initiative, partnering with families, service providers, and community leaders to build inclusive, culturally responsive programs.

As Elevar Program Manager, I led the growth of a bilingual entrepreneurship and leadership program that supports small business owners through education, mentorship, access to resources, and community connection. My work centered on economic mobility, equity, and empowering entrepreneurs, especially immigrants, women, and other underrepresented community members.

I founded Minka to bring together everything I had learned through nonprofit leadership, community outreach, entrepreneurship, and systems change. Today, Minka includes both a consulting practice and a community foundation, allowing us to help organizations strengthen their impact while investing directly in initiatives that expand opportunity and belonging. The name Minka comes from the Quechua tradition of collective work for the common good, a philosophy that continues to guide everything we do.

I am also a Certified Community Health Worker through the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment and remain deeply engaged in civic leadership. I currently serve on the Stone Creek Charter School Board and continue to advocate for the Latino community in Edwards and throughout the Vail Valley by creating pathways for underrepresented voices to be heard, included, and empowered.
